Welcome to Worship Therapy!

Worship has been an important part of my healing journey.  On this weekly podcast,  I’ll be sharing songs and artists who have impacted my life with their gifts.

This week we will discuss taking the hurting to the King.  Many of the people you encounter every day are living in some type of pain (physical, emotional, spiritual), and one thing a loving friend can do is to lay them at the throne of the King.

WORSHIP

Our featured song is Take Me To The King by Tamela Mann

Lyrics:

Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart is torn in pieces
It’s my offering
Take me to the King

[Verse 1:]
Truth is I’m tired
Options are few
I’m trying to pray
But where are you?
I’m all churched out
Hurt and abused
I can’t fake
What’s left to do?

Truth is I’m weak
No strength to fight
No tears to cry
Even if I tried
But still my soul
Refuses to die
One touch will change my life

[Chorus:]
Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart’s torn in pieces
It’s my offering

Lay me at the throne
Leave me there alone
To gaze upon Your glory
And sing to You this song
Please take me to the King

[Verse 2:]
Truth is it’s time
To stop playing these games
We need a word
For the people’s pain

So Lord speak right now
Let it pour like rain
Oh, yeah, we’re desperate
We’re chasing after you

[Bridge:]
No rules, no religion
I’ve made my decision
To run to You,
The healer that I need

WORD OF GOD

Read Hebrews 4:14-16

This passage share why we can approach the King with confidence:

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. ~ Hebrews 4:14-16

Now consider the words of the song Take Me To The King. When life seems to difficult and our circumstances leave us feeling depleted, we can come to God empty-handed to receive His mercy and grace. When religion disappoints, we can focus on our relationship with God.

Today’s Therapy Session

  1. There are times in your life when the pain you experience is so deep that it creates a vacuum effect and tries to draw you inside of it.  Have you ever been hurt on that level? This type of soul-level wounding can make you want to turn and run away from God. It’s in those moments we need friends who love us enough to take us to the King. Is there anyone in your life dealing with deep pain you can take to the King? This can be done through praying for them, standing beside them in the pain, and holding them close when they feel unlovable. Allow God to use you to draw others to Him.
  2.  In Take Me To The King,  one line in the chorus says “lay me at the throne, leave me there alone.” The lyrics give us a step by step process on how to help the hurting. We must first take them into God’s presence. This requires us to carry the weight of their burdens and to enter into their pain. But then we must release them by laying it all at the throne. Our job ends at this point and it is God’s job to be the healer that they need. Their transformation occurs in their 1 to 1 experience with His glory. When we try to do God’s job, we end up getting in the way and hindering the work of His spirit. Have you been trying to assume God’s role in someone’s life? Repent and ask for the courage and strength needed to lay them at the throne and leave them there alone.
